Practicing Part Twelve
Applying What You Learned
We’ve all been there.
You are assigned a new role, aria, movement, solo etc…
You learn it to the best of your ability and then you coach it in your lesson.
Mistakes are made.
Your teacher coaches you on what to fix.
But, how do you remember and apply what you learned in your lesson and apply it to your (hopefully) everyday practicing?!
Easy!
Record your lessons and coachings.
You have a phone with the capability to record audio and video - USE IT!
I get it: We all hate listening to ourselves especially when we’re at our most vulnerable in a lesson/coaching, but you need to hear your mistakes and how to fix them.
I truthfully believe it humbles us to hear the mistakes we make and motivates us on how to fix them.
So here’s what I do:
1- I actually practice with my lesson recording. This helps that muscle memory kick in and activate what you learned.
2- I listen to my lessons from start to finish. Pop in my Air Pods and listen to my lessons. I typically do this while commuting or have a free time at work.
I know I mentioned this previously:
But it always helps to expand.
Don’t forget:
Practice Makes Progress.
Happy Practicing!
