Practicing: Part Five
Alternative Ways to Practice
I know you’re probably wondering:
How can I practice my music without actually singing/playing my instrument?!
I totally get it! There are times we are just notable to get in practice time. Whether you are sick, overtired or traveling to a rehearsal/performance or stuck at school:
Here are a few things you can do:
Score Study
Taking the time to read your music. Taking notice of the notes and rhythm. Hear the music play your head. Mark it up if you haven’t already.
Conduct/count your rhythm
Be the Maestro or Maestra!!!! Conduct your piece. This helps solidify your rhythm. If you feel too silly, count your rhythm. Clap it out and speak your text.
Listen to a good recording and follow along
Find yourself an incredible musician you admire and hear how they perform your piece/aria. Don’t try to mimic how they sound. We all have our own sound. Simply see where they took a breath, how they prepared for that hard legato line and see if that helps you.
Write out your lyrics/translations
Sometimes you learn your lyrics and translations better when you write them out on simple lined paper. Don’t type it, hand write it. It will help you memorize it, I guarantee it!
Listen to your lesson or rehearsal
Make sure you are recording your lessons and or rehearsals and then listen to them. Hearing yourself will help with your muscle memory.
Those are my alternative ways to practice.
