Practicing: Part Two
Finding Motivation During A Heat Wave
If you live on the East Coast, then you know the hellish heat wave we have endured these last few days.
It’s humid, you avoid being outdoors, hydrate nonstop, and I don’t have central air so…
LET’S PRACTICE!
I know what you’re thinking: How could you in this heat?!
Simple!
I just do it.
Believe it or not, the humidity motivates me to really focus during my practice time.
Think about it this way: When you perform on stage - it doesn’t matter how cold that theater is. You are under scorching, stage lights and singing uses a lot of energy so you’re going to be hot and sweat.
Here is my advice - Train yourself to get used to singing in all different temperatures.
You are going to have opportunities to perform all over the place and you will have absolutely no control over the temperature. I once sang under a tent on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in a torrential rain storm.
Better to get used to humidity, rain, windchill whatever… during your personal practice time so it doesn’t come as a shock to you during a professional engagement.
Happy Practicing!
