Can You Become A Great Musician Without Practicing?!
No, but good luck trying!
I’m not going to sugar coat it. In order to become exceptional at anything, you need to practice.
Sure, you can sight read music, but sight reading can only get you so far in this industry.
I’ll admit, I have learned and performed a Mozart duet in about a week.
If you can’t even find fifteen minutes from everyday to attempt practicing, this isn’t the field for you.
You’ve probably seen this meme floating around in different variations:
I stress this so much.
Practicing is the key for learning and performing music successfully.
If your music isn’t prepared - you’re going to get kicked out of rehearsal and possibly even replaced depending on the situation. And yes, I have seen both instances happen.
Remember what Abby Lee Miller says:
Music is an extremely cut throat industry. So if you want to be a professional, you have to enjoy practicing.
I know I am being tough, but sometimes, I have to be brutally honest.
