Lorde just dropped her fourth album, Virgin, the other day.
Truthfully - I didn’t know she had that many albums. I haven’t really listened to her music since she debuted in 2013 with her hit “Royals”. I assumed this hit was a one-hit wonder, but to be fair- when she debuted in the music scene, I was in graduate school and mad focused.
But - Never fear!
I sat and really absorbed this latest recording so let’s break it down a bit:
A short ass recording, Virgin is a 35 minute album.
The album has multiple synthesizers which as a musician, I’ll always be a little disappointed when a music artist picks computer software programming instead of providing employment to any and all freelance instrumentalists out there.
It’s a lovely recording. Simply structured so you can listen to it while you get your work done. However, it’s not really memorable. I’ve listened to the album almost a dozen times and there is not a song that sticks in my mind. The album also ends quite abruptly. The first time listening through I thought, “That’s it?!”
Apparently fans are having massive problems with the actually physical copy of the CD album. The CD itself is transparent and won’t play in several stereos systems. I have never heard of a clear, transparent CD and I believe this is the first of its kind…and it’s a total flop.
I did not go out and buy the album - I stream a lot of my music because I currently don’t have the room for physical media.
If you need new background music or enjoy electronic music with vocals, I recommend it.
